Knock knock.
Who’s there?
To.
To who?
It’s to whom!
Who doesn’t love a good writing joke? ✍️ 😂
Now, on to some fun content. That’s right…we are diving deeper into the first sneak peek of my new series, The Lost Princess, which is due to come out soon. If you are a newsletter subscriber or follow me on social media, you likely have already seen my playlist that I shared with all of you on the top 5 songs I listened to when writing this series. If you haven’t, no worries—here it is below. ⬇️
Now, I am going to dive a little deeper into where these songs sparked some creativity in the book.
- “The Alcott” by The National (feat. Taylor Swift)
What I love about this song is that it essentially focuses on a long-lost relationship and what went wrong. In The Lost Princess, I channel a lot of these sentiments through our heroine, who has quite the experience with dealing with loss. This begs the question: what is it like to mourn someone or a relationship before even knowing what it might be like?
2. “Saturn” by Sleeping at Last
Saturn is more of an instrumental piece that I listen to when writing sad or dramatic scenes. And there are plenty of those in the upcoming series.
3. “Fight Song” by Rachel Platten
Cue me pumping my fist in the air, just like in The Breakfast Club when “Don’t You (Forget About Me)” is playing in the background. After all, when someone is trying to kill our heroine at every turn, a little inspiration and motivation to get back up and keep going is exactly what she needs.
4. “Headstrong” by Trapt
What I enjoy most about our hero and heroine in this book is how both are strong-willed and resilient characters. I loved listening to this song whenever I wrote fun banter scenes between our main characters. Ding! Ding! 🛎️ Ready for round 2?!? 🥊
5. “Keep Holding On” by Avril Lavigne
This was one of my favorite songs to listen to when writing this book. I can’t wait for you all to read about all of the twists, turns, and suspense in The Lost Princess. Just like our characters, we’ll all have to “Keep Holding On!”
There you have it—a little insight into how my playlist helped during the writing process for many of the scenes in my upcoming series.
